just another saturday morning

This morning was just another Saturday morning. You know, the kind where the night before James and I made cereal bags for the girls and laid them on their respective places on the couch so when they woke up way too early for a Saturday morning, they could plop right on the couch and zone out watching cartoons while munching on cereal. But our girls? Don’t get me wrong, they do love cartoons, but sometimes they just want to draw. So, it was not unusual for us to wake up at 8:30 this Saturday morning to find this note affixed to our door:

The written note says: Please do not come in here because my mommy is sleeping (with a stop sign drawn below the words).  Rilyn knows how much I LOVE sleeping in! The drawing is of me and James and he is asking, “May I have this dance?” And I am replying, “Yes, you may!” (Apparently, I’m into wearing hoop skirts!) And the drawing wouldn’t be complete without a chandelier above us! Rilyn cracks me up! I have no idea why she drew us about to dance. :-)
So after I get out of bed, (and let James still sleep in which is very unusual because he usually lets me sleep in!), I get Asher out of his crib because he still doesn’t know how to climb out and, well, after I bought him a ‘black out’ curtain last week, poor guy doesn’t know when it’s morning time now, so he just lays quietly in his bed until I get him! After breakfast, I caught Rilyn and Asher watching cartoons together like this. So sweet.

After everyone was dressed, Asher decided it was time to push the baby doll stroller lawn mower outside and do some man work.  ;-)   Because, you know, our dead grass needed a trimming!

eew!

What I love about this stage of ‘toddlerhood’ is how they learn new phrases/words everyday!  Asher’s “here you go” was so last week.  This week?  Well this week, we’ve been ‘blessed’ with another new phrase from our dear son.  Now to be fair, he loves this song about a “wiggly, jiggly, giggly worm” from Staci Gray, (who incidentally will be at his birthday party in April!)  You will hear the song at the beginning of the video and in the song, there are parts where kids yell, “Eew!”  He L.O.V.E.S this song!  So pair that with him just being a boy, and you get this:

And if you noticed, there is no telling when he will shout out, “Eew poo-poo!” He will say it when he is getting his diaper changed and he will say it when Rilyn comes home from school off the bus! ;-)

$2000 and counting…

Got something fun in the mail today!

I got my fourth $500 ‘prize’ from online offers today!  So exciting!  We are using this $500 American Airlines gift card to fly to my cousin’s wedding in California this summer!

I spent about $40 on this deal and did it in November, so it took a little longer to receive the gift card this time, but I’m not complaining! So far I have received $2000 total in online offer prizes and I have another $500 visa gift card coming in the next couple months and a new Dell laptop worth over $1000 that is coming in the next few months!  I have already ‘taught’ seven other friends and two have already received their $500 visa gift cards!
Again, if you are interested in how I get these, click here or just ask me!

In case you are wondering about my previous $1500 I made, click here, here, and here!

tea party and tongues

On Valentines Day, we had a Valentine tea party at Grandma and Grandpa’s house complete with pink heart cupcakes and red punch ‘tea’. James said he felt like ‘he was turning into a girl’ by attending this pink and red heart filled event. He sure loves his girls!!

tea time!
Apparently, Ella needs to work on her table etiquette.  Chewing with her food

half out of her mouth is not very lady like!  (Showing how different these sisters are,

Rilyn is next to her ’dabbing’ her mouth with her napkin that was on her lap!)

Asher was napping during the tea party and so he got his Valentine cupcake treat when he woke up. I think he liked it!

mmmmm…what’s this?!?
yum!
Just need to get this frosting on top of my lip…
oh and some on the bottom…
can’t forget the frosting on the side!

sweetheart dance

Rilyn attended her school’s Sweetheart Dance last night and I was the official dance photographer! It was fun to see her ‘in her element’ with all of her friends and dancing/eating/giggling the night away! Daddy was her date and they had a great time!  Of course, I couldn’t let her leave my ‘photo booth’ without a picture of her with her best guy buds-Levi and Cole!  Hmmm…which one will be her prom date one day?!? ;-)

ee-oh-ee-oh-ee-oh

Recently Asher has been using inflexion when trying to get meaning across to us.  His newest ‘phrase’ is “Here you go!”  But….it sounds a bit different.  Check it out!

why I love Valentines Day

Because I find papers like this on Rilyn’s art desk while straightening up:

(I also find it very sweet because Rilyn never told me she was making this Valentine for Ella.)

It says:  Dear Sister, I love you and you are my Valentine.Hugs and Kisses

From Rilyn

To Sister

(I love the little heart in the middle of their heads connecting them!)

I pray that these two girls would grow to be best friends! Oh what joy it is to raise two girls close in age!

Rilyn not sure at first about this ‘new sister’ thing!

100th day

Today was the 100th day of kindergarten for Rilyn. For those of you who don’t know, no I don’t count the days meticulously. This is an actual common ‘holiday’ that schools celebrate. Rilyn brought home “My 100th day of school book” and in it she had to answer various questions.
“I would spend $100 on a unicorn,” she wrote.  Cute.

And: In 100 years, this is what I will look like:

It’s gray hair and glasses when Rilyn turns 105 years old!!

**And for those of you who are wondering, “How is public school going?” my answer is, every day is a test of our faith.  “Do I trust God today?” I ask myself as we pray over her each morning.  (We go through the book of Proverbs and if it’s the 8th of February we pick a proverb in the eighth chapter to read over her.  It’s a book about wisdom so pretty much every verse is relevant for her days!)  Most days are easy.  Some days I don’t like what I hear when Rilyn tells me she’s in the “hot girls club” at recess. (No, she doesn’t understand what that means and I tried to come up with better ‘girls club’ names with her!)   Some days are scary-Rilyn had a boy in her class bring an utility knife last week. Today another boy brought real handcuffs to her classroom!  At this age, they don’t have any ill intentions, but what if they did?

Tests of faith to do what God is calling our family to do. Raise Rilyn at Manor Elementary for such a time as this. Right now we feel very sure that she will be going to first grade at Manor Elementary. I love her teacher and her class. I’m in there each week and they know me and I know them. I love it.

To close out this post, I want to share an e-mail that my good friend, Angela Suh, wrote to me just before school started this year. Such an encouragement, thanks friend.  I read it often.
“I was reading in 1 Chronicles 11 today about David’s Mighty Men. I was noticing that the things that the distinguished the mightiest of the mighty men were that they went into battles with insurmountable odds and they were willing to fight, even though they were often alone and everyone else had abandoned the cause. I just started thinking about sending the kids to Manor public schools. These schools appear to me to be places of insurmountable odds: low test scores, poverty, gangs, low graduation rates, low college-bound numbers. I mean really insurmountable odds. But, as I was reading this today I was so encouraged that the Lord does mighty mighty things through those whom He puts in places where the odds are stacked against them and they are outnumbered. He often uses circumstances such as these to make His name great and to create people that are mighty in faith.”

Amen!

Richard Halverson, the chaplain of the U.S. Senate, pointed out something that bothers a lot of people and excites a few. He said,

Jesus Christ said more about money than about any other single thing because, when it comes to a man's real nature, money is of first importance. Money is an exact index to a man's true character. All through Scripture there is an intimate correlation between the development of a man's character and how he handles his money.

That is a good paraphrase of Matthew 6:21 where Jesus says, "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." In other words, what your money goes after is a signal of what your heart goes after. And Jesus cares more than anything about what your heart is going after.

What our hands do with our money shows what our hearts are doing with God. Or to get right at the heart of the matter: what we do with our money shows what we believe God is doing with us. What money is to us shows what God is to us. Jesus said, "A man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions" (Luke 12:15). No, it consists in his relationship to God. "This is eternal life—true life —" Jesus said to his Father in heaven, "that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent" (John 17:3). What we do with our money shows where we believe life—and joy and love and hope and security and meaning and freedom—is found.
