Angry Birds party!

Asher had an Angry Bird birthday party! It was so much fun to plan!    Here is the link to James’ awesome short video he put together of the big day!

https://vimeo.com/65970036

Here is the party in pictures!!

I made Angry Bird balloons using a template I found online.  Click the picture for a link.  (I drew my own orange and green Angry Bird faces though.)

For party favors, all the guests got sling shots! Inside the golden eggs, they got rubber bird balls they could use with their sling shot!

I bought all these eggs at Easter time for his party!

You can get Rubber Birds Bouncing Balls (pack of 12) here.  And sling shots here.

<”Foam “Wooden” Blocks“> found here.

While guests arrived, the birthday boy and guests jumped on the trampoline!

Asher’s sisters had an Angry Bird tattoo parlor too!

Before we started our first activity, James showed all the kids the golden eggs that they could win during a game. Little did the kids know who was behind them…

First activity was using “bird eggs” (Cascarones or confetti eggs) to throw at each other. I bought 6 dozen at Easter! :)

Next up was pinata time!

Then it was time for (Angry Bird) pizza!

After pizza, was the sling shot game! James and my brother built a 3 foot tall sling shot and we blew up 60 lime green balloons to use as “piggies”! James set up the boxes that the pigges were to be in with pins. I painted mini dodge balls with angry bird faces, and when a child slung a ball at the piggie balloon, the balloon would fall back on the pins and POP!

A pack of three mini dodge balls was $9 at HEB

Uh oh! The piggies are back and they’ve got our golden eggs!!!

Time to get those piggies!

See the blue Angry Bird flying?

Bam! Knocked out the top piggie!

Asher going for another turn! Every time a child knocked a piggie down, they got a golden egg with a prize inside!

We had a few crazy Angry Birds that had a little too much energy! LOL

It was getting hot outside, so we took a break for some cupcakes and ice cream!!

I love the sparkler candles! My kids are never too sure about them…

My kids always love the party blowers!

present time!!

After presents, the kids went back out to do some more damage to the piggies with the sling shot…this was what was left!

Piggie carnage! Lots of eyeballs and snouts!

Asher is FIVE!

Asher turned five years old yesterday!  He is an active boy, who loves to climb on furniture and  jump off of things.  He tests his boundaries constantly, and actually got his clip moved down to yellow on his yesterday for kissing a girl (on the cheek thankfully!)  He loves to cuddle, all things art, he is warming up to soccer (next up karate in the summer, and flag football in the fall!), has started to read, and still loves me the most in our family!  (ask him, it’s true.)  ;)  I wouldn’t say he is an independent boy, but rather likes his sisters and I to do things for him, (and most of the time he gets away with it!)  What can I say?  He is the baby of the family!  Here is his special day in pictures!  (His Angry Bird party is Saturday, stay tuned!)
Traditional wake-up birthday donut!

Traditional “run through the crepe paper” on your birthday!

When Asher opened up his new mitt he said, “Look, I got a glove that holds a football!” And then he pointed to his new bat and said, “When can we play golf?”

He loves his new Angry Bird!

I couldn’t go up to preschool to eat lunch with him (because of standardized state testing), so I did the next best thing! I wrapped up all his lunch items!

We went to Chuck e Cheese for dinner to celebrate with his BFF!

I caught them in their “secret hideout” doing their “secret handshake”!

His favorite thing to play at Chuck E Cheese!

Asher and Caden! Friends since birth!

Every birthday, we like to make homemade cards. This year, I used his soccer picture and his Angry Birds party theme to create this:

soccer time!

James is coaching Asher’s soccer team for the second year, the Rolling Stones.  This year they are playing on the under 5 league, but James allowed two 3 year olds to play on our team because they are family.  So cousin Caden gets to play with the “big kids!” Here they all are at their first practice!

Their first game was on Saturday!

cousins!

We totally lost (BAD), but they ALL had fun, and that is what it’s about! :) (I keep telling myself this in my head because it’s hard to watch them lose as a mommy.)

End of game hands-in!  Goooooo Rolling Stones!

gymnastics!

Cheerleading was definitely consuming this past fall, but Ella and Asher had an extracurricular activity too!  They both were in gymnastics one day a week.  They loved it, and Ella will continue doing it in the spring, but will focus on tumbling.  Here are some pictures!  Ella’s birthday party will be at this very gym tomorrow, she loves it so much!

Ella’s teacher said that she has an AMAZING vault, and said she could move up to the next level class!

Ella LOVED chalking up her hands before doing the bars!

the Hulk!!

**Halloween Preview**

Asher will be the Hulk for Halloween!  His costume comes with a mask, but I think for trick or treating, to be safe, we will go without.  I found this Jake and the Neverland Pirate wig that looks pretty cool with it!
(I realize his Hulk hands are upside down-oops!)

knocked out!

Boys will be boys, and Asher proved that on Monday afternoon.

I was inside the house helping my girls with their homework, and Asher was in the backyard playing with a friend.  Unbeknownst to me, Asher was being naughty, and was playing on a backyard toy the wrong way.  He fell off, and must of landed mouth first on our cement patio.  He opens the back door crying, and blood was pouring from his mouth.  (I still have bloody fingerprints on my back door.)  Both my girls immediately start screaming, and I run to him, and lay him on the floor.  As I’m trying to assess the situation, (I know the mouth bleeds more than normal, so I’m trying not to freak out), I notice he is missing his top front tooth!!!!  Rilyn wants to call 911, and I tell her “no”.  So she asked to call daddy.  James said hearing that call from Rilyn flipped him out, because all he could hear was Rilyn screaming and mumbling, and he was wondering why I wasn’t calling him.  James then calls our neighbors, and the husband comes over to help me and have the girls walk over to their house.  I now don’t know if Asher swallowed his tooth, so I ask Rilyn to look for his tooth in the backyard and, praise the Lord, she found this:

Asher’s top front tooth, age 4 years 5 months

I called the emergency hotline at my pediatrician’s office, and thank goodness, they told me to call my dentist. (It’s hard to think clear in these situations!) It was 4:10, and my dentist office was about to close, (and they are 20 minutes away). I called, (in tears), and they said do not wash off the tooth, put his tooth in milk, and have him spit some of his saliva in the container. If I could get there right away, they might be able to save the tooth! (They said they have an hour time limit from the time the tooth comes out to put it back in.) My neighbor drove me right to the edge of the neighborhood when we saw James driving into the neighborhood!
We quickly jumped in James’ car, and took off! Asher fell asleep in the car, (probably from all the crying) and I was trying to keep him awake in fear he had a concussion. When we got to the dentist, (who stayed late for us), she had to put his mouth to sleep which meant a big long needle. I hate having to hold my son down while he is thrashing around in so much pain already. It’s the worst. And I could only pray, take his pain away. The dentist literally shoved his tooth back in and bonded it with two other teeth to stay in. It was a mess since his gums and lips were so torn up from the fall. We told Asher for being so strong and courageous at the dentist we would get him a new toy and ice cream. He was so traumatized from the whole afternoon though, that he just wanted to go home after the dentist. :(
The dentist said he needs to eat only soft foods for 3 months!! We go back to the dentist in a week to see if the tooth bonded to the bone and praying no infections will incur this week from all the trauma. If the tooth doesn’t “take”, she will have to take it out, and put a fake tooth in to keep the spacing right in his mouth since he won’t be losing teeth at least for another year. We will also see if any teeth died, and if there will be any damage to his future permanent teeth.
For now, I am cutting up his soft food into little bites, and Asher asked me if he was a baby again. :) Here is my little man, with the cutest fat lip I’ve ever seen! ;)

The girls have been super sweet to their little brother and showing much compassion. Ella proclaimed that Monday was the worst day of her life, and prayed that God would make her forget about the whole day. (It was pretty intense to see Asher bleeding like that.) Rilyn has written Asher sweet notes that I read to him, and a friend came over yesterday to deliver a card and a new car. His cousin is bringing him a smoothie today. He is feeling the love, and I’m thankful that the accident was what it was, and not more serious.

summer

Asher has a thing for water in his face…he LOVES it!!

I think I’ll stand right here…
so I can get dumped on!!!!

And just for fun-grandma bought Asher and cousin Caden matching Jake costumes from Jake and the Neverland Pirates show. Cousin Caden’s birthday is coming up, and his party theme is from that show…grandma just couldn’t resist. Personally, I couldn’t even tell if that was a wig Asher was wearing! ;-)

lately

May is the busiest month of the year for our family by far!  With my birthday, mother’s day, both our moms’ birthdays, end of school activities, dance recitals, etc. we have our heads spinning!  Here is a quick update of our May (so far) in pictures:

Asher and I went out on our first date together to Chick-fil-A’s Mother Son Date Knight.  The restaurant went all out in the medieval theme, and they even had questions at every table for things to talk about with your son.  One question I asked him was, “How can you protect me Asher?”  Asher told me he will protect me from cars.  ;)

Asher being knighted by a 6’5″ cow
there were bounce houses in the parking lot!

For my birthday and Mother’s Day, James let me have a relaxful weekend, and took the kids for the weekend to Fort Worth/Dallas.  They spent time with family, and the kids went on their first camping trip! More pictures to come later, but for now:

James, the kids, wtih their aunt, future uncle, and Oma

On Mother’s Day, we met back up in Temple at my parents house, and the kids went swimming and had a barbeque. The water was still a little cold I guess!

Rilyn jumping in for the first time!  (I think I put the sunscreen on too heavy on her face!)
Asher was NOT HAPPY with the water temp.!

After they got used to it, they started smiling again!

Ella has a rule:  having no goggles means she uses floaties!

She found some goggles!

portraits

On every child’s birthday, I go to Picture People to get their portraits done.  Nowadays, it seems really silly, because I actually have a nicer camera than Picture People!  But the OCD in me needs to have all the pictures “matching” because I hang them chronologically starting at age 1 on the wall going up the stairs.

I come about this part of my OCD honestly, as this is what my mom did on a wall in our house growing up. Except they weren’t clean white backgrounds-they were the lovely JCPenney fake trees and flower backgrounds and I was wearing floppy hats and big bows!  :)
Here is Asher’s 4 year portraits!

love the pose!

And just for fun…school portraits aren’t what they used to be! I love how my girls are lounging on some “stones”!

chuck e cheese!

For dinner on Asher’s birthday, he got to invite one friend to Chuck E Cheese!  Ella was so sweet to Asher and pressed the pedal for him on the “big boy” racing game that he really wanted to play!

I think Ella started getting claustrophobic down there, because then she started doing it this way!

poor Ella, she could hardly reach the pedal either!
Asher made these faces during each game he played!
still into making faces
Cheers to Asher’s 4th!  (I love how Ella is video taping it for daddy to watch later!)
