Complicated

So James is still trying to figure out what is too complicated for Rilyn to understand…he tries, and he wants to always be truthful, but some things are better left for when she is a little older. Example follows:

(Rilyn and James are in the car alone on their way back from a ‘date’.)

Rilyn said to Daddy: “I always want to be at home with mommy and daddy forever.”

Daddy to Rilyn: “You will live in your house for awhile, but then you will grow up and move out on your own.”

R to D: “I don’t want to, I want to stay with you forever.”
D to R: “Rilyn, this isn’t our true home, our true home is heaven. You can’t live forever at home.”

R to D: “I don’t want to go to heaven, I want to go to my home.”

D to R: “Home is yucky compared to heaven.”

R to D: “I’m going to tell mommy to clean my home so it’s not yucky.”

D to R: “Rilyn, you either go to heaven or hell.”

R to D: “I want to go to hell then.”

D to R: “But hell is a bad place where there is lots of booboos, and crying and lots of fire.”

R to D: “I don’t want to go to hell-I want to go home!!!!”

(Rilyn then comes in the house with tear rimmed eyes and I ask James, what happened in the car????)

On a lighter note, Ella told her first knock knock joke the other day, well, it was half a joke but it still made me laugh.

Ella: “Knock, Knock.”

Mommy: “Who’s there?”

Ella: “Baby Jesus!!”

(She proceeds to bust out in laughter) ;-) Oh, I love my girls!

Ella turns 2!

We can’t believe our little ‘baby’ has turned 2 already!  We love her so much and she brings such laughter and joy to our family.  Her birthday party was so much fun and here are some of my favorite pics.

Happy New Year!

We had such a great Christmas this year. All of our pictures are up in ‘December 2007′ link now. Here are some of my favorites.

Oma Paquette, Rilyn, and Ella

Rilyn gave us a ‘scarf’ she made at preschool for Christmas this year, (the girls are wearing the princess dresses we gave them for Christmas).

Richard Halverson, the chaplain of the U.S. Senate, pointed out something that bothers a lot of people and excites a few. He said,

Jesus Christ said more about money than about any other single thing because, when it comes to a man's real nature, money is of first importance. Money is an exact index to a man's true character. All through Scripture there is an intimate correlation between the development of a man's character and how he handles his money.

That is a good paraphrase of Matthew 6:21 where Jesus says, "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." In other words, what your money goes after is a signal of what your heart goes after. And Jesus cares more than anything about what your heart is going after.

What our hands do with our money shows what our hearts are doing with God. Or to get right at the heart of the matter: what we do with our money shows what we believe God is doing with us. What money is to us shows what God is to us. Jesus said, "A man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions" (Luke 12:15). No, it consists in his relationship to God. "This is eternal life—true life —" Jesus said to his Father in heaven, "that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent" (John 17:3). What we do with our money shows where we believe life—and joy and love and hope and security and meaning and freedom—is found.
